EXCLUSIVE: Amazon is adding to its nonfiction team.

The streamer has hired Netflix exec Liz Franco, who has worked on docuseries such as Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, Simone Biles Rising, and American Murder: Gabby Petito.

Franco, who spent five years at Netflix, has joined as a Creative Executive, reporting to Ariane Wu, who joined the company from Netflix earlier this year as Senior Creative Executive Documentary Series, reporting to Jenn Levy.

She starts today. Franco joined Netflix in October 2021, as a Manager, Original Documentary Series. Other titles she worked on include Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult, Chef’s Table, Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey? and Death of a Pastor’s Wife as well as its Turning Point franchise.

Before that, she spent two years at CNN, where she worked on series such as United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell, This Is Life with Lisa Ling, and Lincoln: Divided We Stand.

Prior to CNN, she had roles at Vox Media and WME.

In a note to colleagues earlier this month, Wu said Franco had “extensive documentary executive experience”. “Liz’s contributions and insights will be crucial to building a slate of must-watch, immersive, top-tier documentaries,” she added.
