The Redox OS open-source, Rust-based operating system has seen a lot of activity in recent weeks with many notable improvements landing.

Redox OS today published their latest monthly status update for highlighting all the interesting developments made over the course of August.

Redox OS in August implemented a ring buffer communication API akin to Linux's IO_uring. This can allow for better performance with supported drivers, such as for I/O with NVMe storage.

Redox OS has also implemented initial NUMA support as another nice improvement for the month.

The QEMU emulator is also now working on Redox but currently lacks KVM-like virtual machine acceleration. So QEMU works, but it will be very slow.

Also notable is Redox OS now supporting dual boot installations from Linux.

On the ARM64 front, Redox on AArch64 has initial multi-core CPU support. Some other Redox changes for the month include lowering IPC overhead by around 5%, decreasing the kernel binary size, and various driver improvements.
