Malaysia’s Transport Minister offered to quit his government job. He is angry because the country’s king gave a special pardon to former Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Under this new rule, Najib can leave prison and stay under house arrest if he pays a large fine. Loke said his party is strongly against corruption and believes that no one is above the law. But to keep the country’s government stable, only Anthony Loke offered to step down. Other ministers from his party will stay in their posts so the Prime Minister’s government doesn’t fall.
Loke promised that big national transport projects will continue as planned without any problems.
Difficult words: pardon (when a guilty person is officially freed), house arrest (when a person is forced to stay inside their own home instead of going to prison), corruption (when people in power do illegal things).
