A mother was allegedly found “passed out drunk” in a chair while her 3-year-old son floated face down lifeless in a pool as witnesses tried frantically to wake her up, according to police.

Amie Jo Farber, 41, of Evansville, Indiana, allegedly pounded five 25-ounce beers in two hours while visiting a friend’s pool with her son on Saturday.

Farber had showed up and asked the homeowner if she and the boy could swim in their pool. The owner agreed but told her to keep a close eye on the child, according to the Evansville Police Department.

About two hours later, the homeowner told officers that they found the mom fast asleep in a patio chair surrounded by empty beer cans — and the boy floating unresponsive in the water, 14 News reported.

One witness pulled the boy out of the water and began performing CPR while another called 911.

A person can be repeatedly yelling “Amie” in an attempt to get Farber to wake up on the 911 call, according to police, while another woman could be heard yelling “she’s passed out drunk!”

The homeowner later told officers that in just the two hours Farber was in the backyard, she drank about five 25-ounce tallboy beers.

Police said when they arrived they saw Farber throwing away empty beers in the trash and that she appeared to be intoxicated.

Farber told officers at the hospital that she “must have fallen asleep” but didn’t know for how long. Farber also admitted “this is all my fault,” but didn’t elaborate further.

Police obtained a search warrant for Farber’s blood to get it tested for drugs and alcohol.

Farber was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail Saturday night and charged with neglect resulting in death. She is being held on a $25,000 cash bond and has a court hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

In a separate case in 2023, Farber was arrested after a family member found her drunk caring for an infant, 14 News reported.

Farber drunkenly tried to take her baby on a walk in a stroller — but lost her balance and ended up passing out on the ground, When Faber awoke, she threatened a family member, who was holding and feeding her baby.

Police arrested Farber, who fought back and spit at officers, cops said at the time.

It’s unclear if the same child was involved in both incidents.
