A 16-year-old has the remarkable ability to recall events that have happened to him with unparalleled clarity.
While most people can remember things that happened to them in the past, a select few are capable of going one step further by recalling, in unprecedented detail, every single moment of their lives.
One such individual, a 16-year-old whose name has been disclosed only as KCL, has recently been covered by the press because of his remarkable ability to remember everything that has happened to him since the age of around three.
It was at this age that he developed what has been described as a "sense of continuous, conscious autobiographical experience".
The condition, known as highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM), is so rare that less than 100 individuals across the world are thought to have it.
Not only can he 'time travel' in his own mind to relive past moments, but he can even describe what happened on any specific date picked at random with an accuracy of 83%.
KCL reportedly spends several hours a day lost in his recollections - something that could be considered a blessing or a curse depending on the nature of the memories.
For example, most people can recall embarrassing or difficult events that they'd rather forget.
Exactly what brings about such a remarkable ability in the brain remains unclear.
