Taylor Swift had plenty to celebrate at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
While fans watched the “Patient Zero” singer debut her new music video, receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors and add to her impressive collection of Moon Persons, some of the night’s most charming moments happened behind-the-scenes and weren’t captured during the live broadcast.
One sweet backstage interaction saw Swift share a warm embrace with Madonna. Earlier in the evening, Madonna praised Swift before she accepted the groundbreaking new honor, making the moment between the two music icons even more meaningful.
Another standout moment featured Swift and Dakota Johnson backstage following the world premiere of their “Patient Zero” music video. Smiling with their arms around each other, Swift joked to a camera operator, “Oh hello, fancy running into you here,” before thanking the VMAs for premiering the video.
When someone off-camera congratulated the pair, Swift looked down at one of her newly won awards and excitedly exclaimed, “Look, it’s gold!”
In another fun moment, host Snoop Dogg playfully fanned Taylor Swift as she made her way to the stage to accept Video of the Year.
Swift also shared a backstage moment with Snoop Dogg, posing for a friendly photo together. Snoop rested a hand on Swift’s shoulder and flashed a No. 1 sign as they smiled for the camera before exchanging a high five.
Before the night wrapped up, Swift also made time for fans. A group of Swifties approached the singer, who greeted them with hugs and posed for selfies from her seat, capping off an unforgettable night with a personal touch.
The pop superstar made MTV Video Music Awards history at the 2026 ceremony, becoming the show’s most-awarded artist after receiving the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors. She then went on to win Video of the Year and Best Direction. The milestone victory broke her tie with Beyoncé at 30 wins, giving her sole possession of the all-time record.
The achievement adds yet another milestone to Swift’s decorated VMA career. She entered the night with nine nominations, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and several craft categories, trailing only Madonna among this year’s nominees.
