Byelections to 38 local body wards, including two Corporation wards and three municipality wards, will be held on Monday in Keralam. All arrangements have been completed for the smooth conduct of the elections, State Election Commissioner N. Seshadrinathan said here on Saturday.

The poll results will be keenly watched as these are the first bypolls to local body wards after the Congress-led UDF government came to power in Keralam in May.

Polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. In all, 126 candidates are in the fray including 62 women and 64 men. The Commission has arranged 385 polling stations.

The counting of the polled votes will start at 10 p.m. on September 29.

Voters’ lists updated and published on August 19 will be used for the bypolls. In all, there are 3,09,713 voters in the final list, which includes 1,64,241 women, 1,45,468 men and four transgender voters.

The 38 wards across 12 districts include two Corporation wards - Ayyappankavu in Kochi Corporation and Kuttichira in Kozhikode Corporation - three municipal wards, three district panchayat wards, seven block panchayat wards and 23 grama panchayat wards.
