Tennessee Governor Bill Lee refused clemency for death row inmate Christa Gail Pike on Monday.
He said in a statement, "After deliberate consideration of Christa Gail Pike’s request for clemency, and after a thorough review of the case, I am upholding the sentence of the State of Tennessee and do not plan to intervene.”
Ms. Pike was convicted for the murder of Colleen Slemmer, 19, in January, 1995, and sentenced to death in 1996.
She is scheduled for execution by lethal injection on Wednesday.
