WASHINGTON, October 2. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said his country may create a military base in Poland.

"We are looking at that, and it could happen," he said at a media stakeout outside the White House.

"You don’t know if I made it [the decision on creating the base] or not. I might have made it," Trump added.

Earlier, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said Washington had included into its national security strategy a provision on creating a permanent US military base in Poland.

On June 3, Kosiniak-Kamysz presented US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth with an official proposal to open a new permanent base for US troops in Poland. The cost of building the military base that may house roughly 5,000 military personnel could amount to more than 10 billion Zlotys (about $2.6 billion).

In early September, a US delegation visited Poland to examine potential sites for the object. The Polish defense minister said the base could be named after Trump.
