The United States got a glimpse of the future in a 4-2 win over Chile before their game in St Louis ended in ugly scenes.

Mauricio Pochettino's team is still looking to get over their disappointing FIFA World Cup exit at the hands of Belgium, with a youthful roster assembled for this international break.

They beat Peru 4-1 on Saturday in the first game since the World Cup and made it back-to-back wins on Tuesday night.

Mathis Albert became the youngest-ever player to score for the USMNT at 17 years and 140 days while fellow teenager Julian Hall, 18, also found the net.

And the new-look team's togetherness and fight was also on full display - literally - after a bench-clearing brawl broke out at the end of the game.

USMNT stars did not take kindly to Chile winger Leandro Hernandez appearing to poke goalkeeper Brian Schwake with his foot while the American was on the ground smothering the ball.

Defender Chris Richards instantly stormed over to confront Hernandez, shoving him as multiple teammates instantly joined the scuffle.

As Chile stars also got involved, substitutes entered the field from the USA bench to defend their teammates.

Captain Tyler Adams had to be held back as he remained furious and voiced his displeasure at Chile stars, while manager Pochettino tried to restore order and separate players from both teams.

'Obviously they're frustrated,' Richards said after the game. 'They're losing the game, deservedly.

'But then if they want to foul our goalie, want to kick him when he's on the ground? They're on our home soil, so that's not going to fly.

'Regardless of who comes in, I think the first thing to buy into is family, and I think you've seen that.

'We've celebrated a birthday along this camp, and we're just having fun. And again, we're in St Louis, we're in Tim Ream's home, and we wanted to send him off well.'

Ream, who captained the USA and played alongside Richards in defense in this summer's World Cup, was honored before the game in his hometown as he also confirmed he is retired from international soccer.

'Let's shoot it straight here,' Ream said. 'This conversation was had already with Mauricio and I told him that yes, I know I've said in the past that I won't retire from the national team until I retire completely from the game, but the kids are getting younger and younger, and I don't mean my own kids.

'This has been discussed and before this camp it was discussed that I would not be a player with the national team any more.

'So it is retirement. We've used the word recognition. We weren't really sure how we want to label it.

'But that's it for me. I'm proud of being part of something for 16 years, but it is time to step away and stay away from playing with the national team.'
