MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Russia welcomes the withdrawal of the US and allied contingents from Iraq that was completed on September 30, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"Troop withdrawals from Iraq, which we definitely welcome, means that the Iraqi army and law enforcement can now strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and ensure national security on their own," she said in a commentary.

"They are capable of countering the terrorist threat coming from Islamic State (outlawed in Russia) and other such organizations," Zakharova added.
