Staff report
Bloomington, Ind. – October 1, 2026
Indiana University has suspended all activities of the Sigma Nu fraternity until further notice, citing hazing, according to the university’s Office of Student Life.
The suspension took effect Sept. 29, the university’s disciplinary-status page says. IU has not publicly described the conduct behind the hazing finding or said whether any students face individual disciplinary action.
Sigma Nu was previously listed as having entered a voluntary agreement with IU from Jan. 29 to Feb. 20 to resolve a matter involving alcohol and risk management. The new suspension is a separate action and cites hazing.
The university’s page lists several other fraternities under restrictions this academic year, including Beta Theta Pi, Delta Tau Delta, Pi Kappa Phi and Theta Chi, with hazing cited in each case. Pi Kappa Phi’s listing also cites physical abuse.
The Bloomingtonian has not independently verified details of the conduct behind Sigma Nu’s suspension. The university’s public listing does not identify when the alleged hazing occurred, describe what happened or state how long the suspension may last.
