Range Rover has opened European order books for its first-ever battery-electric Range Rover Sport. However, North American customers will have to wait a little longer as the SUV is only expected here for the 2028 model year.

It’s built around a 118.5-kWh battery, dual motors, and an 800-volt electrical system. Each motor produces 260 kW (349 hp), and their combined output reaches 550 ps, equivalent to approximately 542 hp, and 627 lb-ft of torque – the highest torque figure in the Range Rover Sport’s history. Dynamic Launch Mode enables a claimed 0–60 mph time of 4.3 seconds, compared with 3.7 seconds for the quickest twin-turbo V8 versions.

The Sport Electric model uses the company’s MLA-Flex platform and will share the Solihull, U.K., assembly line with gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants. Compared with the PHEV, its body structure is 61% stiffer, and its centre of gravity sits 73 mm lower. Chassis equipment includes air suspension, adaptive twin-valve dampers, electronic active roll control and four-wheel steering. A virtual all-wheel-drive system manages torque between the axles. The Range Rover can ford into 900 mm of water and climb 45-degree grades.

Estimated WLTP range reaches 609 km, although Natural Resources Canada has not yet announced an official rating. The EPA equivalent reaches 521 km while the manufacturer cites a real-world estimate of 536 km. At a suitable DC fast charger, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes, or recover up to 220 km in 10 minutes. The company’s ThermAssist system handles thermal management. Aerodynamic grille and wheel designs can add up to 16 km of highway range. Exterior changes otherwise remain limited, keeping the Sport’s existing restrained style and proportions.
