Jagex has announced a fourth RuneScape MMO, its first new mainline game in over a decade, at RuneFest 2026 in Birmingham on 3 October.
The new MMO, which carries the working title RS4 but has no official name, was revealed alongside a roughly 90-second concept trailer showing dragons that players can fight and ride. Jagex said nothing about a release window, platforms or gameplay, and executive producer Jesse America described the project as being in very early development. Jagex also has not confirmed how the new game fits alongside RuneScape 3, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
The game is being built in Unreal Engine, and America said the entire studio is on it. “This is something that the entire studio will work on, all of us together,” he told a pre-RuneFest briefing.
The project began life as an expansion for RuneScape: Dragonwilds called Shadows of Ashenfall, before it outgrew that scope. America said player demand for social features such as persistent servers, high player counts and player-to-player trading pushed the design toward a full MMO. “We came to the realization that it essentially would be an MMO, and that it deserved its own game,” he said.
RuneScape Reignited arrives in DecemberJagex also used the show to announce RuneScape Reignited, a fresh-start version of RuneScape 3 that remasters Gielinor as it was at the game’s 2001 launch, with a reworked early game and a new Adventure Guide aimed at new and returning players. It launches on 2 December 2026, with full access free of membership from 2 December to 12 December.
The announcements cap a big year for Jagex. RuneScape: Dragonwilds reached version 1.0 in September and launched on PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass, bringing the series to consoles for the first time. Jagex also revealed an animated RuneScape series being made with the creator MoistCr1TiKaL and production company Lyrical Media, with no format or release date announced.
