Minecraft Live delivered more than a new dimension this week: Mojang also confirmed the next base-game drop, a Nintendo Switch 2 release date, and a Minecraft theme park opening in Greater London in 2027.

The next content update for base Minecraft adds Ice Caves, a new cave biome with icicles, light-emitting ice crystals, calcite and a frozen zombie variant. Mojang detailed the biome in its official Minecraft Live recap, and the studio says icicles grow on cave ceilings and detach if a torch is placed beneath them, while the crystals grow on the ground and give off a soft light.

No release date has been given for the drop. Mojang says the biome is heading to testing soon.

The broadcast also reiterated that Minecraft arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October 2026, with a free upgrade path for players who own the existing Switch version. The date had been confirmed before Minecraft Live, so the show repeated it rather than announced it fresh.

Australian pricing for the Switch 2 version has not been confirmed by Mojang.

The headline announcement of the show was The Sift, the game’s first new dimension in over 14 years, which will join the Overworld, the Nether and the End when it reaches the Java and Bedrock editions in 2027. Players get their first look at it in Minecraft Dungeons 2, which launches 29 September 2026 on Windows at €29.99 on Steam, and on Switch on the same day.

The broadcast also carried news for anyone planning a UK trip. Minecraft World, a theme park at Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London, opens in 2027 with what Mojang calls the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster, running indoors and outdoors, plus the first Minecraft World Hotel, the world’s biggest Minecraft shop, themed food and interactive adventures.

Park operator Merlin describes it as one of its most ambitious projects in recent years.
