What would your top priorities be if elected?
My vision for the future of Spring Lake Park comes down to three main goals: modernizing how we govern, investing in our families, and keeping our community affordable. First, we need to transform the culture at City Hall. If you ask most residents what’s happening in local government, they can’t tell you—not because they don’t care, but because City Hall hasn’t made transparency a priority. I will ensure every resident is informed, included in decision-making if they want to be, and knows exactly how their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent. Second, I want to make Spring Lake Park an even better place to raise a family. That means modernizing our public parks so children of all physical abilities can play safely together. It also means actively seeking new investment in our city, with a small business micro grant program that will help new entrepreneurs lay down roots in Spring Lake Park. Finally, we must protect Spring Lake Park’s reputation as an affordable home for young families and seniors on fixed incomes. Responsible stewardship requires us to have honest, serious conversations about what our true priorities are. I am ready to lead those difficult discussions to ensure every dollar we spend delivers real value back to our residents.
What qualifies you to hold this position?
For nearly ten years, I worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional. While that might not be the traditional background of a politician, it gave me the exact skills local government needs right now. Every single day in the classroom, I had to bring people together, de-escalate conflicts, and collaborate with folks who didn’t always see eye-to-eye with me. Most importantly, it taught me how to truly listen.
What do you think is the primary role of government?
The primary role of government, particularly city government, should be making residents’ lives better. In the context of a city like Spring Lake Park, that means delivering high quality services that provide real value. For example, parks and recreation programming for children and seniors and code enforcement to maintain property values and protect renters.
How do you work to understand, and then learn from, opinions that differ from your own and people who disagree with you?
People hold different views because they have different lived experiences and priorities. My goal when trying to build bridges with people who disagree is to ask questions and understand their core concerns. My background working in public schools taught me that finding the best solutions requires collaboration. When we work towards shared goals as a community united, it will lead to practical solutions that work for the entire community.
