The ongoing thread "Beer doesn't go with food..."? started by @ATL6245 has a lot of interesting discussion. I figured it would be worthwhile to collect some statistics with a poll. Please let us know how frequently you drink beers with your meal. And please add some explanatory comments via posting to the thread.
Cheers!
P.S. I considered adding a third choice of something like “Every once in a while” but I decided to make this a simple Yes/No choice.
I enjoy most of my meals with a beer.....or wine.
I enjoy all of my beers (well, except the ones that are swill and get the well deserved, "week-old, surrealistic art, REALLY runover dead duck photo") whether or not I'm having them with a meal, a snack or a quick nosh.As a good friend is fond of saying, "I like beer. Do you?"
And yes, a Guinni (multiple word for more than one Guinness draught) for breakfast is simply wonderful.
As too many others have pointed out on that other thread, the combination of certain beers with certain foods are just the bees knees/wonderful to my tastebuds.A big ol' fat, perfectly grilled brat & sauerkraut without a lager/pilsner or marzen/festbier?
Spicy oriental/thai/mexican without a pale/ipa or the aforementioned other three?
A decadent dessert without a Belgian strong/strong ale/barleywine/imperial stout/barrel-aged dark brew?Heresy.
Have a few sips of all of the above before starting to eat the food to properly evaluate & rate the brew but to not enjoy the flavors of the beer(s) that perfectly accentuate the taste of the food?
Heresy.
I voted "Yes," but it really depends. If I go out for lunch or supper, I'll go to a place with a decent tap list so I can have a good beer with my meal. If it's Whiskey Road, I'll also have a wee dram of something good as a digestif. I'll occasionally have a beer with a meal when I'm dining in, but not very often. I'll usually have a Cab Sauv with a steak, but I could switch things up if I have a lambic, saison, grisette, or English mild on hand. If I ever make it to the Mucky Duck in Ames on a Saturday morning for their full English breakfast, you'd better believe there will be an ESB on the table.Dogfish Head's Noble Rot and Mixed Media were excellent food beers. I'm sure many other "off-centered people" would agree.
I
Object your honor! @tekstr1der is leading the pollees!
Booooooooooo!!!
I voted 'yes' and it's a nightly event for me. However, I usually have a glass of water in front of me in addition to a beer, so I'm drinking both. It usually turns out that I drink a third to a half of the beer so that I'm drink the rest of it while watching TV after dinner. I'm a slow drinker so that the last drink of the beer may be an hour later (or two hours if it's a special beer such as a BBA stout). So in reality I'm having it both ways, with and without food.
