New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill has officially moved into the governor’s mansion. What’s the plan for her Montclair home?

Sherrill and her family have not yet disclosed whether they will keep or sell their South Mountain Avenue home. Sherrill and First Gentleman Jason Hedberg, an investment banker, have been Montclair residents since 2010.

“The Governor and her family will make a decision about their home in Montclair in the future,” Maggie Gabarino, Sherrill’s deputy press secretary, said in an email.

Sherrill this month announced she had completed her planned move to Drumthwacket, New Jersey’s official gubernatorial residence in Princeton. The mansion, built in 1835, is open to the public for tours.

“Drumthwacket is more than the Governor’s residence — it is ‘The People’s House,'” she wrote in a social media post this month. “We’re excited to bring it to life with our family, open its doors to New Jerseyans, and share the rich history and heritage that make this place so special.”

Sherrill is only the third governor to live in the mansion full-time, and the first governor to live there permanently in more than two decades, according to reporting from NJ.com.

Gov. Jim McGreevy resided there during his tenure, while former Gov. Jon Corzine used the mansion as a temporary home to recover from injuries he suffered in a 2007 car crash.

The move places Sherrill closer to Trenton, but she made the commute back to Montclair last week to sign legislation strengthening protections for both patients and providers of reproductive and gender affirming healthcare during a press conference outside of the town’s Planned Parenthood facility.

In her statement this month, Sherrill said that Montclair and Essex County “have been a beloved home for us and will always hold a special place in our hearts.”

“They are where we grew our family and raised our children for the past 16 years, surrounded by a community we will miss deeply,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, it looks like Goose is loving his new digs.

A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Sherrill moved into her South Mountain Avenue home in 2017 to reside in the 11th Congressional District. She’s lived at her South Mountain Avenue home since 2010.
