Here, we’ll take you through design, display, in-box contents, hardware, and overall first impressions. Take a look.

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G box includes:

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G follows a durability-focused design approach, with REDMI putting significant emphasis on protection against drops, water, and everyday wear. The phone features REDMI’s reinforced construction with a high-strength motherboard and reinforced mid-frame designed to improve resistance against everyday impacts. The phone carries the company’s TÜV SÜD 5-star Titan Quality Certification, which covers aspects including battery performance, water resistance and drop resistance.
The smartphone is available in Cloud Blue, Purple Vibe, and Stealth Black. We got the Purple Vibe version, which features a matte finish design and provides a comfortable grip. The Cloud Blue, on the other hand, comes with a photochromic finish. Despite packing a massive 9,000 mAh battery, the device maintains a relatively slim profile, measuring around 8.57 mm in thickness and weighing approximately 219 grams.
Durability is one of the strongest parts of the package. The Note 17 Pro 5G uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings. REDMI also claims water resistance of up to 2 metres for 72 hours, while SGS-certified testing gives the phone a 3-metre drop resistance rating on a smooth granite surface. The device has also been tested for compression and bend resistance.
The phone also supports HydroTouch 2.0, which is designed to maintain accurate touch response with wet, oily, or soapy fingers. This is particularly useful for a device that places such a strong emphasis on durability and outdoor use.

On the front, the Note 17 Pro 5G features a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120 Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate. The panel has 12-bit color depth and can reproduce more than 68 billion colors, while REDMI has also optimized its color tuning for services such as Netflix and YouTube.
The 120 Hz panel uses 1.5K resolution (2,772 x 1,280 pixels alongside 240 Hz touch sampling, while instantaneous touch sampling can reach up to 3,200 Hz. The display reaches up to 3,500 nits peak brightness, with the company specifically highlighting sunlight visibility. It also supports 3,840 Hz PWM dimming, DC dimming, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and TÜV Rheinland eye-care certifications.
The combination of the 1.5K resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, 12-bit color, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, high brightness, and eye-care features should make the display particularly well suited to video streaming, gaming, social media, and everyday outdoor usage.
The sides are as usual; you get USB Type-C on the bottom alongside loudspeakers, a microphone, and a dual 5G SIM tray, while the right side has power and volume controls. Other hardware features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, IR blaster (top), stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, and NFC.

Battery life is arguably the biggest highlight of the smartphone. The smartphone packs a massive 9,000 mAh Hyper Si/C silicon-carbon battery, which REDMI claims can deliver 3.5+ days of typical usage on a single charge.
REDMI claims the battery delivers up to 112 hours of music playback, 25 hours of local 1080p video playback, 23 hours of Instagram usage, 15 hours of navigation, 14 hours of BGMI gaming, and 12 hours of rear-camera video recording.
The battery supports 67W TurboCharge, with the charger included in the box. REDMI also claims up to six years of battery reliability, with the battery retaining 80% capacity after 1,600 charge cycles. Intelligent Charging and Battery Health 4.0 are designed to manage charging speed, temperature, and usage patterns to improve long-term battery durability. Another useful addition is 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing the Note 17 Pro 5G to act as a power source for compatible accessories and other devices.

For performance, the smartphone is powered by the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, an octa-core mobile platform designed for multitasking, AI workloads, gaming, and everyday productivity. Graphics are handled by the Adreno 710 GPU. The phone comes with up to 8 GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage on the higher variant (the 128 GB variant uses UFS 2.2 storage), while Memory Extension can provide up to 16 GB RAM based on the 8 GB configuration.
The Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, combined with the 120 Hz display and large battery, should make the Note 17 Pro 5G well suited to everyday activities such as messaging, social media, streaming, multitasking, and gaming. During our initial hands-on, we’ll be looking closely at UI, app loading, multitasking, gaming performance, sustained performance, and thermals. We’ll reserve our complete performance and gaming evaluation for the full review.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, bringing Xiaomi’s latest software experience to the device. The software includes Google Gemini and Circle to Search, alongside AI-powered image editing tools such as AI Erase Pro and AI Expansion. REDMI promises 4 Android OS version upgrades and 6 years of security updates, giving the device a longer software support cycle.
The phone also supports Xiaomi HyperAI features designed to add AI-powered functionality across the device. Another interesting feature is Xiaomi Offline Communication, which is designed to enable communication between compatible devices without relying on a conventional mobile network.

For cameras, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G features a dual rear camera setup comprising a 50 MP main camera with OIS and an f/1.8 aperture, accompanied by an 8 MP ultra-wide camera. On the front, there is a 16 MP selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture, supporting up to 10f80p at 30 fps video recording. The rear camera offers video recording at up to 1080p at 30 fps, while the ultra-wide camera supports 1080p and 720p recording at 30 fps.
The 50 MP main camera uses a 5P lens, while the rear camera system supports features including Live Moments, HDR, Portrait Mode, Ultra HD mode, Panorama, Documents, Pro Mode with presets, and Dual Video. Front camera features include Portrait, HDR, Live Moments, AI Beautify and Watermark.
The phone also introduces an Underwater Mode through an OTA update, subject to availability. The feature is designed for underwater photo and video capture and includes dedicated controls and speaker drainage. We’ll be sharing detailed camera samples and a comprehensive camera analysis in our full review.

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is clearly built around two major strengths – battery endurance and durability. The combination of a massive 9,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, 67W TurboCharge, reverse charging, and long-term battery health claims makes it particularly interesting for those who do not want to worry about charging frequently. The 3.5+ day typical-use claim is particularly noteworthy.
Beyond battery life, the phone also makes a strong first impression with its 1.5K AMOLED display, 120 Hz refresh rate, 3,200 nits peak brightness, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and extensive IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection. The SGS-certified 3-metre drop resistance and underwater protection further strengthen its durability credentials.
Beyond battery life, the phone makes a strong first impression with its 1.5K Super Sunlight AMOLED display, 12-bit color depth and high 3,500 nits peak brightness. Durability is another major highlight with SGS and TÜV certifications, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K protection, alongwith 3-metre drop resistance, making the smartphone considerably more focused on physical protection than a conventional mid-range smartphone.
From our initial hands-on experience, the 9,000 mAh battery is undoubtedly the best feature on the phone, followed by its strong durability factor, while other perks such as a 12-bit 1.5K AMOLED display, high brightness, and HyperOS 3 make the overall package more compelling. We’ll be testing its camera, gaming performance, thermals, battery endurance, and overall day-to-day experience in greater detail soon. Stay tuned.
