Thermaltake is shaking up the building approach with traditional ATX form factors, bringing to market the new Dockpower FI 1000W. Featuring a completely detachable connection dock with server-grade contacts, this ATX 3.1 unit promises to permanently solve cable management frustrations.

For over two decades now, Thermaltake has been a cornerstone in the DIY PC market, initially gaining its reputation in cases and cooling solutions. Over time, their power supplies have matured into genuinely competitive and reliable machines for all budget ranges. Recently, Thermaltake have been experimenting with different form factors, bringing innovation to the PSU market. On that thread, the newest 'Dockpower' lineup offers a novel solution to an often frustrating part of system building.

The Dockpower FI series at its core is a new ATX 3.1 and PCIe Gen 5.1 compliant unit. Where it differs from the rest is what they are calling a "Docking Power Architecture." Rather than plugging modular cables directly into the rear of the power supply chassis, the Dockpower features a completely detachable connection panel; the Dock Module. The idea is that you manage and route all your system cables into the standalone dock once, with convenient positioning and angles without the constraints of the bulky main unit. The main power supply unit then slides into place, mating with the dock via server-grade 30µ gold-plated contacts and securing with a tool-free D-ring screw. If the main unit ever needs to be swapped or upgraded (assuming this exact dock structure appears on future models), it simply detaches, leaving your finished cable management untouched. Aside from this innovative feature, the 1000 W model on our test bench today claims 80 Plus Gold efficiency, a native 600 W 12V-2x6 connector with dual-color seating, and a 135 mm hydraulic bearing fan.
