Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12 Plus, its new flagship Android tablets, with prices starting at $1,400 and $1,200 in the US.

Both models go on sale on October 7 in Gray and Silver, and Samsung says the new generation brings better performance, longer battery life, and its latest Galaxy AI features.

The two tablets run on MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 chipset and ship with One UI 9 based on Android 17. That is the same software version Samsung has been delivering to its phones, including the recent stable One UI 9 rollout for Galaxy S25 devices.

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra has a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 2960 x 1848 resolution and up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The Plus model uses a 12.6-inch panel at 2800 x 1752.

Both screens reach up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness and support the S Pen, which Samsung includes in the box. The fingerprint sensor now sits inside the display on both tablets, a change from the previous Galaxy Tab generation.

Samsung says the Ultra is 5.1mm thin, which makes it the thinnest Galaxy Tab so far, and it still fits an 11,600mAh battery and a 3D vapor chamber for cooling.

The Plus measures 5.3mm and carries a 10,600mAh battery. The company claims up to 23 hours of battery life for the Ultra and up to 21 hours for the Plus, with 45W wired charging on both.

• Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra: 12GB or 16GB of RAM, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage, 13MP main and 8MP ultrawide rear cameras, Wi-Fi 7, 692g.
• Galaxy Tab S12 Plus: 12GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB of storage, 13MP main rear camera, 5G with dual SIM (physical SIM plus eSIM), Wi-Fi 6E, 553g for Wi-Fi and 555g for 5G.

Both tablets have a 12MP ultrawide front camera, Bluetooth 6.0, microSD support up to 2TB, and an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

Multi Window on the new tablets can run three apps on screen at once, such as Samsung Notes, YouTube, and an AI chatbot. Samsung has partnered with Adobe to preload Photoshop on the Galaxy Tab S12 series, and buyers get discounts and free trials for Goodnotes, LumaFusion, and Notion.

Buyers comparing the two models should check a few points before ordering:

1. Pick the Plus if mobile data matters, since 5G and dual SIM appear in the Plus specifications while the Ultra listing shows Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth only.
2. Choose the Ultra for 16GB of RAM or 1TB of storage, as the Plus tops out at 12GB and 512GB.
3. Factor in microSD expansion up to 2TB on both models before paying for a higher storage tier.

Samsung has listed US pricing and the October 7 availability date, but the starting prices cover the base configurations only, and pricing for other markets and higher storage tiers was not detailed in the announcement.
