Fiction

Wasn’t quite sure what this was going in, and after finishing it I’m still not entirely. I think the main theme was accepting uncertainty and chaos in our lives? Whatever it was, I did enjoy it – humorous situations and writing.

The narrator, an author fresh off the success of his debut novel, is under pressure (at risk of paying back a massive advance) to finish his second. Meanwhile, he is newly diagnosed with a heart condition which could kill him at any time (with not much that can be done except “keep an eye on it”) and his long-time platonic friend wants to have a baby with him – artificially inseminated of course. And he’s trying to be a good Big Brother mentor to an underprivileged minority kid.

I gather some of this is autobiographical? Something I saw about this book was how it “weaves fiction and non-fiction” = “auto-fiction” (a fictional autobiography?) I dunno, I’m not literary. Seemed not all that revolutionary though.

I have no idea still what the title means.
