Transportation officials, community members to meet, discussing dangerous Hartford intersection

Дата публикации: 10-09-2026 16:59:03

Residents who regularly walk, drive, or bike through the intersection of Main Street and Albany Avenue in Hartfird say navigating the area can feel dangerous, and state transportation officials are now looking for ways to improve safety.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) is meeting with community members Thursday evening to discuss plans to reconfigure the intersection as part of the Greater Hartford Mobility Program.
For some residents, concerns about safety at the intersection are nothing new.
“Oh yeah,” said Hartford resident Florencio Figueroa when asked if he worries about being hit while crossing the street.
Figueroa, who lives on Albany Avenue and crosses the intersection regularly, said he remains on high alert whenever he’s in the area.
“A few times, close to it,” he said, describing near misses with cars.
Other residents echoed those concerns.
“I’ve just seen my fair share of cars being confused on how to merge,” said Keocean Wolfe, a Hartford resident. “It’s kind of like playing Frogger in the worst way.”
The concerns have caught the attention of state transportation leaders.
The proposed project would reconfigure the intersection with the goal of improving safety for pedestrians while also helping traffic move more efficiently through the busy corridor. The effort is being discussed in partnership with Hartford’s Community Action Task Force.
“It’s not safe to go on. It’s not safe even to drive through,” said Denise Holter, chair of the Community Action Task Force.
Figueroa said he’s encouraged to see community leaders and state officials working together to address long-standing concerns.
“I would appreciate it greatly,” he said.
A public meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Semilla Café, located near the intersection. Residents are invited to attend and share their experiences and ideas for making the area safer and more accessible.
