First launched by Baltic in 2023, the Hermétique is arguably the most unique field watch on the market. A hyper-modernized take on the genre, the 37mm watch is filled with unusual features that include an integrated crown, solid lume markers that “float” and metal “blades” that encircle the dial.

Since that original oddball release, Baltic has continually expanded the Hermétique line to make it one of the French brand’s stalwart collections. You can now get an Hermétique in a wide range of bright colors or in bronze, and there previously existed a dual-time version with a rotating inner bezel.

Now, Baltic has added another variant of the Hermétique to its lineup, and it’s the wildest and coolest style yet.

Baltic recently became the official timekeeper for The Rift, a 900-strong gravel bike race across Iceland. To celebrate, the brand has launched a special “The Rift” version of its contemporary field watch that’s inspired by the dramatic natural colors of Iceland: volcanic black, moss green and glacial blue.

Volcanic black is represented by a forged carbon sector that encircles the dial and provides the backdrop for the railroad minute track. Moss green and glacial blue are both used for the “floating” solid lume block indices, with blue coloring the four Arabic numerals and their accompanying dots at 3:00 and 9:00, and green used for the baton markers.

The inner portion of the unique sector dial is white but is fully coated in Super-LumiNova BGW9, so it offers incredible luminosity in the dark. This lumed section is separated from the forged carbon track by the Hermétique’s usual polished steel “blades.”

The 37mm stainless steel case retains its integrated crown, which should make the watch a lot more comfortable for a cyclist to wear. Additionally, Baltic has launched an identical 34mm version of this watch, debuting a new case size for the Hermétique that makes an already compact watch borderline tiny.

Both sizes measure just 10.8mm thick, which drops down to an ultrathin 8.3mm if you subtract the massively domed sapphire crystal. The thinness is achievable in part to the Miyota 9039 automatic movement inside, and despite the watch’s svelte profile, it’s still water-resistant to an impressive 150m.

Availability and pricing

Both sizes of the Hermétique The Rift are limited to 200 examples each, but unfortunately, the 37mm style sold out soon after it launched. You can still pick up the 34mm version for €620 (~$694).
