@AzfromOz can prolly help here
Hello!Thanks @Resistance88! I'm based down south, about 11 hours away from Sydney by car, but back when I used to visit Sydney regularly for work, I'd always try to get to the Royal Albert Hotel in Surry Hills. It's an old school Australian pub updated with modern craft offerings. There are a number of other bars and breweries within easy walking distance, so you could use it as a jumping off point.
Cheers!
For breweries:Wildflower is the pick of them. Their taproom, called Village, combines their beers plus Mountain Culture - who brew a lot of hoppy beers. A diverse range of beers and good food. If gelato is your thing, Messina is within walking distance.
Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre. Home of Hawke's beers. Named after a long serving Prime Minister, it's 80's theme is pretty unique, even down to the 80's style Chinese Australian food menu. It's a 15min walk from Wildflower.
Bracket Brewing. Also walking distance. Plus a good pizza shop across the street. MMC.
For bars:
Lord Nelson Hotel in the Rocks is a beautiful old sandstone building. Does get busy at peak times - later in the week after work or weekend afternoons.
Baxter Inn is a prohibition era whisky bar. No signage, hidden entrance. Pretty unique and extensive whisky list and some beers.
It'll be summer then and Sydney is a harbour city, so might be fun to take a ferry from Circular Quay (pronounced key) to either:
Manly, where there are a few breweries and plenty of pubs; or
go upriver to Sydney Rowing Club at Abbotsford; or
Watson's Bay for the Watson's Bay hotelEnjoy your trip and if you'd like to catch up for a beer or a trade, let me know
I'll second Wildflower. Really enjoyed what we had from them during our visit to Sydney a couple years ago. Also, within walking distance from there are a few other breweries that are worth a visit depending the styles you prefer with Sauce Brewing, Philter Brewing and Batch Brewing.Mountain Beer Culture had a couple of the best IPAs that I had during the trip but their taproom is pretty far west of Sydney and we didn't visit.
Beer Barrel had a great selection for a bottle shop.
Merry Christmas and new year to all!I second the Lord Nelson Hotel, worth a look for the history and good beer. Nelson's Blood Porter has to be one of the great names for a beer.
Watson's Bay Hotel or Doyles next door for seafood are also iconic in Sydney.
In the city, I find it hard to go past Rockpool. More a restaurant, but has a cool little bar where you can sit at the bar and there is usually a beer worth drinking.
Enjoy!
