China will accept Isle of Man passports for visa-free scheme

Дата публикации: 22-04-2026 11:07:00

Isle of Man passports will now be accepted in relation to a new scheme allowing visa-free travel to China for up to 30 days.
Talks have taken place recently between the Isle of Man Government and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) after cases were identified of people encountering problems when attempting to enter China.
The FCDO has confirmed that holders of Crown Dependency variant passports, whose nationality status is listed as a ‘British citizen’, are eligible for visa-free entry into China. The Chinese Embassy has also confirmed that border officials are aware of the update.
Treasury Minister Chris Thomas MHK said: ‘I am grateful to those who brought this issue to our attention and pleased that we were able to follow it up so promptly. We have worked closely with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and I welcome the confirmation that holders of Isle of Man passports are eligible for visa‑free travel to China under the new scheme. I hope that this clarification will provide greater certainty for people travelling for business, family or leisure.’
On 17 February 2026, China announced an extension of its 30-day visa free entry for UK nationals until 31 December 2026.
It is each traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have the correct documentation for travel, including a passport that meets the validity rules of the country they are visiting or transiting through.
Travellers are strongly advised to:
Check the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) travel advice for the most up to date entry requirements
Contact the relevant embassy or consulate of the country they plan to visit to confirm immigration and customs rules
Note that FCDO guidance states: ‘The authorities in China set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Chinese Embassy in the UK'
Failure to hold a valid passport or the necessary entry documentation may result in refusal of entry. If refused entry, travellers may be required to arrange and fund their return home.
The FCDO and its Consular Services cannot intervene in another country’s immigration decisions and cannot assist travellers in gaining entry where they do not meet local requirements.
