It is becoming increasingly evident that UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk is unable to perform his job impartially and in good faith, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Geneva office and other Geneva-based international organizations Gennady Gatilov said.

In a statement posted on the Russian mission’s Telegram channel, Gatilov highlighted Turk’s October 8 commentary on the situation in Ukraine, in which he groundlessly accused Russia. "I regret to state that, once again, we are witnessing your lightning-fast reaction’ once Ukrainian issues are involved and there is an opportunity to make baseless accusations against our country. At the same time, in your typical hypocritical manner, you mention crimes committed by the Ukrainian military against the Russian civilian population only in passing, in a single line," he noted, adding that Turk has once again failed to find the strength to "condemn the Ukrainian army’s terrorist attacks that are taking place practically every day."

According to the Russian diplomat, in just one week, from September 28 to October 4, as many as "235 civilians were affected in shelling attacks by the Ukrainian Nazis: 206 civilians were wounded, including 19 minors; 29 people were killed, including 2 children." Ukrainian militants deliberately hit trucks and a storage facility holding humanitarian cargoes from the International Committee of the Red Cross in Donetsk. Ukraine’s blockade of Aleshki continues, triggering a humanitarian crisis. "Time and again, we keep on pointing out to you that such a politically biased stance on the Ukrainian crisis on the part of a high-ranking UN official is unacceptable," Gatilov stressed.

"Your inability to fulfil your mandate objectively, impartially, and conscientiously is becoming increasingly evident to the international community. And this has confirmed that your appointment to this position by the UN General Assembly was flawed," he emphasized and called on the UN High Commissioner and his office "to finally stop indiscriminately whitewashing the bloody Kiev regime, to demonstrate genuine impartiality and independence, and to begin assessing the situation surrounding Ukraine objectively."
