Amid a recent surge of medical dramas on Netflix, Norway is stepping into the genre with Always on Call. The seven-part series stars Sara Khorami as Sofia, a surgeon forced to balance life-or-death cases, hospital politics, and her coworkers’ complicated personal lives. It arrives on Netflix on November 26, 2026.

Always on Call is an upcoming Norwegian Netflix Original medical drama created and written by Harald Rosenløw-Eeg and Jan Trygve Røyneland. Stian Kristiansen and Liv Karin Dahlstrøm direct the series.

The writing team also includes Ane Isungset, Maren Skolem, Stian Kristiansen, Liv Karin Dahlstrøm, and Thorkild Schrumpf. Klynge is the production studio behind the series, with producers Magnus Ramsdalen, Esben Bundgaard-Jørgensen Selvig and Kaare Daniel Steen.

Producer Esben Bundgaard-Jørgensen Selvig expressed his excitement about the upcoming series, noting:

Medical dramas are having a real resurgence now  – that mix of high-stakes, life-and-death situations and intense personal relationships is striking such a chord with viewers right now. What excites me about Always on Call is that it’s not just about the drama of the operating room – it’s about the people who show up for you no matter who you are, king or ordinary person off the street. That’s what a frontline really is. It’s Netflix Nordics’ first ever medical drama, and we can’t wait for audiences to see this emergency room – and everyone in it.

Netflix has confirmed that Always on Call will be released globally on November 26, 2026.

Netflix has released a detailed synopsis for Always on Call:

At the emergency room, it doesn’t matter who you are – rich or poor, influencer, carpenter, or minister. If you’ve broken something, if you’re bleeding, or if you need help, you’ll get it. Despite low staffing, little time, perhaps one too many cups of coffee, and a demanding crowd of patients, a team of exhausted but resilient doctors and nurses are ready to help. Sofia (Sara Khorami), a surgeon with more talent than patience, is sent into this chaotic environment to save her own career – the last place she wants to be. There, she encounters disorder, resistance, and something she never expected: warmth, community… and love. Suddenly, she faces a choice: continue alone on her path to the top, or become part of something greater – a bond she never knew she needed. A family.

Sara Khorami plays the lead role of surgeon Sofia. She has starred in two Netflix projects so far: the limited series Post Mortem and the film Troll 2. Outside of Netflix, she recently starred in the fantasy-horror Kraken, and previously starred in A Mouse Hunt for Christmas, Afterglow, and Made in Oslo.
