UDO Audio have just announced the upcoming release of a new, expandable synth that packs the power of the DMNO into a desktop enclosure. The DMNO ON boasts the same eight-voice, two-part multitimbral engine found in the keyboard version, and can be kitted out with additional hands-on control sections thanks to some optional expander units.

Named the ON System, the new family centres around a compact desktop unit that delivers a streamlined version of the full DMNO synth. The base unit is equipped with dedicated oscillator, filter, modulation and envelope controls along with a mixer section and an arpeggiator/sequencer. It includes the full set of Play Modes found in the keyboard version, which provide eight operating modes that change how the two timbres interact with each other and cater to a range of split and layer options.

In addition to the main unit, the ON System also includes a pair of optional expander modules that provide some additional hands-on control. There’s the ONM-1 Synth Control, which recreates the dual-panel layout of the keyboard-equipped DMNO, offering full control over each of the synth’s two layers. The ONM-2 FX Control then features dedicated controls for the instrument’s send and insert effects and its three-band EQ, offering top-panel control over parameters that were previously only accessible via the main display.

The expander modules are connected to the main unit using D-Sub cables, and draw their power from the main unit, so no additional power supplies are required. The ONM-1 will be available at launch, while the ONM-2 will join the line-up at a later date, and UDO Audio say that additional module plans are already in the works.
