Witnesses told local outlets, including 11Alive and WSB-TV, that the unidentified rider fell from the coaster and struck a train car multiple times during the plunge. One witness said the man appeared in a souvenir photo taken during the ride and that he “fell and hit the car three different times.” Other accounts described the incident occurring near the end of the ride, with riders becoming distressed as the train returned to the station.
Emergency crews responded after a 911 call reported someone had fallen from the Goliath. Riders remaining on the coaster were helped down in small groups, according to video and reports from the scene. Some accounts indicated additional people were injured and taken to hospitals, though the exact circumstances were not immediately clear. The park was closed for the remainder of the day in some reports.
Six Flags Over Georgia released a statement expressing condolences: “We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected. The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”
Goliath, a steel hyper coaster manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, opened in 2006. It stands 200 feet tall, reaches speeds of up to 70 mph, and features a series of camelback hills and a 540-degree helix. The ride uses individual lap-bar restraints.
The investigation by local authorities remained ongoing Monday evening. No further details on the cause of the fall or the victim’s identity were immediately available.
