The new original movie Animals launched at No. 1 overall and atop of Netflix’s weekly English-language movie chart with 23.8 million views for the week through Oct. 11.

Ben Affleck co-wrote, directed, and stars in the thriller about a politician whose son is kidnapped. As he and his wife (Kerry Washington) scramble to raise the ransom payment, they’re forced to make choices — and reveal secrets — that could tear their world apart. Gillian Anderson and Steven Yeun co-star.

The South Korean series “Doctor X: Mafia in White” claimed the top spot on the foreign-language TV chart with 4.6 million views. The series stars Kim Ji-won (Queen of Tears) as a gifted but callous surgeon who takes on only the most baffling of medical cases.

Josh Hartnett’s new Netflix original limited series “Below” topped the English-language TV chart with 17 million views, marking the most-viewed debut of an original Canadian Netflix production. Hartnett stars as a fisherman whose small Newfoundland hometown is terrorized by a mysterious sea creature. He teams up with a marine researcher (Mackenzie Davis) to confront the creature in an attempt to keep his family and community safe, including his son Wade (Charlie Heaton).

Finally, the 2023 French/Belgian fantasy drama Acid, topped the foreign-language movie chart with 3.5 million views. It is an expansion of director Just Philippot’s 2018 short film of the same name. The film premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and bowed in French theaters on Sept. 23, 2023.

For the week, Netflix’s top English- and foreign-language movies and TV shows generated 48.9 million global views, down 28% from 67.2 million views during the previous-year period.
