After 59 years with the same family, this 1957 Corvette convertible is back on the market — for the second time in just a few weeks.
A deal fell through on Bring a Trailer last month, and now the seller is trying again to find a new caretaker for the car his late father bought way back in 1967.
The new listing on BaT already has plenty of eyes on it. “This car was well loved by my dad… he raced it for many years.” That comment came from the seller himself, mialeb1975, who has been active in the thread answering questions and sharing family history.
The car is a fuel injected 283ci V8 example, paired with a Super T 10 four speed manual, finished now in Aztec Copper over beige vinyl. It comes with both a white soft top and a body color hardtop, plus a Positraction rear, bucket seats, seat belts, and the iconic twin cowl dash with a dash mounted mirror.
But the story goes deeper than the spec sheet.
According to Jhurry, who is helping the seller field technical questions, the original engine “was damaged in the racing years,” and the current motor is a period correct ’57 block with front mounts only.
The seller adds that the car “was rarely driven on the street” and spent most of its life being trailered to races and shows. His father worked full time at a chemical plant but spent his free hours wrenching on cars — this Corvette, a Nova, and a Firebird among them.
The Corvette didn’t always wear the current shade. As mialeb1975 explains, it left the factory in light blue, was later repainted gold flake, and eventually refinished in the brick red shade it wears today. The body shows cracks and blemishes, all documented in the gallery, and needs a new paint job, he said.
One reader, Gern44, asked about the paint history, prompting the seller to share the full timeline — a detail that adds charm to a car with nearly six decades of family stories baked in.
This Corvette was sold on BaT in June, but the winning bidder never followed through. The seller is clear that the failure had nothing to do with the car. BaT restricted the bidder’s account and did not refund their buyer’s fee.
As mialeb1975 put it: “The buyer did not have intentions of buying anything… just bidding for fun, I guess.”
It’s a frustrating situation, but one that often brings out supportive voices in the comments. PaulMomDad complimented the car and encouraged the seller, who responded graciously and promised to keep answering questions.
The car rides on 15-inch American Racing wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/As. Suspension remains factory style: independent front, semi elliptical rear leaf springs. Brakes are drums all around.
Inside, the beige vinyl cabin features bucket seats, a color matched dash, a Hurst shifter, heater, clock, and a dash mounted mirror. The radio is gone, and the speedometer/odometer have been removed, leaving mileage unknown. Gauges include tach, ammeter, fuel, coolant temp, oil pressure, and an added Stewart Warner temp gauge.
Under previous ownership, the 283ci V8 was replaced with a Rochester fuel injected unit and an MSD distributor. Power goes through a Richmond Super T 10 four speed and a 3.36 Positraction rear. Aftermarket mufflers are fitted.
The Louisiana title, issued in 1967, lists the VIN as VE57S102483, adding a “V” not present on the car’s serial number — a quirk noted in the listing.
This Corvette isn’t perfect — and the seller never claims it is. But it’s authentic, family owned for nearly six decades, fuel injected, and full of history. For many enthusiasts, that combination is irresistible.
