Primrose Hill under 15s have first match today in Costa Blanca Cup

A team of Teesside youngsters have arrived in Spain to take part in a 'World Cup' battle of their own. The Primrose Hill Under 15s will battle it out against teams from across the globe in the Costa Blanca Cup - dubbed the 'World Cup of Youth'.

Thanks to a huge fundraising drive the Stockton team was able to take up its place in the prestigious tournament arriving in Spain last night, Sunday July 5, ahead of their first match today. David Charnock, a coach at the club said, it is extra exciting for the lads at a time when England is through to the quarter finals of the World Cup after beating Mexico in the early hours of this morning.

He said, due to the travelling, most of the Teesside group missed the England match, but were delighted with the 'amazing' result. He said: "Football is coming home , whether it's Primrose or England."

The Costa Blanca Cup is one of the biggest and most respected international youth football tournaments in the world and this year welcomes 319 teams from 34 countries across five continents.

David said: "It's giving our young players the opportunity to test themselves against different styles of football while creating memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. For many of these local youngsters, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Thanks to months of fundraising, generosity and community spirit, the team raised over £13,000 to make the dream a reality.

"The club would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every friend, family member, supporter, sponsor and member of our local community who has donated, attended events, bought raffle tickets, sponsored the team or simply shared words of encouragement. Every single contribution has helped make this journey possible.

"Primrose Hill FC is about far more than football. The club is committed to giving children positive opportunities, building confidence, creating friendships and helping as many young people as possible become involved in sport, regardless of their background. This trip is proof of what can be achieved when a community comes together behind its young people.

"The players will proudly represent not only Primrose Hill Football Club but also their families, supporters and the local community as they compete on the international stage."

David said everyone at the club is rooting for the boys and wants them to embrace this amazing experience. He said: "The journey to Spain has been powered by a community that believes in its children—and that's already a victory in itself."
