Ellie Goulding has admitted she is feeling 'sad as hell' weeks after confirming her separation from husband Caspar Jopling.

The singer, who is currently in Los Angeles working on her new album, shared an update on Sunday, posting on Instagram Stories that she was having 'a meltdown'.

Ellie, 37, shared a photo of a waterfall with the words 'have a meltdown. As a treat,' and added the caption 'Today'.

She then shared a message which read: 'Solidarity with anyone else feeling sad as hell today. Tomorrow will be better.'

Over on her grid, Ellie posted a series of photos of herself posing by the pool in her LA pad and in the recording studio, under the caption 'squint series.' 

Ellie is currently holed up in LA to work on new music following a whirlwind few weeks during which her split from art dealer Caspar, with whom she shares three-year-old son Arthur, was confirmed.

Since announcing the separation, the singer has been seen at eight events in just 12 days.

She made her first public appearance since confirming the break-up at the UK Women in Music Awards on February 29.

A few days later she performed Miracles with Calvin Harris at the Brit Awards before attending a number of the afterparties. 

Three days later she donned a glamorous Gaurav Gupta gown to walk the red carpet at the Billboard Women In Music Awards in Inglewood, California.

She'd jetted to Los Angeles the previous day, telling her Instagram followers that she'd be spending some time there to work on her new album.

'Finally made it to LA, my new home for a while. Album mode on,' she wrote on the social media app.

Completing her party hopping Ellie attended the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in Beverly Hills a week ago wearing a cut-out gown from the Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad.

Before her red carpet parade Ellie jetted to Central America for a brief holiday. 

During the trip she was pictured cosying up to hunky surf instructor Armando Pereza.

The surf instructor seen canoodling with Ellie is known as Tio to his friends and promises to be a patient teacher and help students to 'read the sea' as long as they are 'patient' and 'respect its power'. 

Ellie frolicked on the beach, sharing kisses and cuddles with the sun-kissed hunk, proving her four-year marriage to her husband Caspar, 31, was over following months of speculation.

In a statement, Ellie and the art dealer finally addressed their split with friends of the couple telling MailOnline she had 'moved on some time ago.' 

The trip to Costa Rica is her second this year, Ellie is believed to have met her new love interest during a previous holiday back in January.

Ellie and her art dealer ex Caspar were reportedly living separate lives for at least six months, despite trying to work things out for the sake of their son Arthur.
