Airline major IndiGo has introduced a new entry-level economy class fare, ‘IndiGo Lite’, which offers passengers travelling only with cabin baggage a lower-priced ticket, while allowing them to purchase additional services separately.

On Wednesday, the airline said the new fare will be available for bookings from July 1 through its direct channels, including the website, mobile application and contact centre, for travel starting July 15.

According to IndiGo, the ‘Lite fare’ will be offered across all domestic and international non-stop routes, and will be applicable for one-way, round-trip and multi-city bookings for both adult and child passengers. Under the new fare, passengers will receive an auto-assigned seat and a cabin baggage allowance of up to 7 kg. Check-in baggage, however, will not be included in the base fare.

additional services

Besides, customers will have the option to purchase additional services, including check-in baggage, preferred seats, meals and priority services such as ‘Fast Forward’ separately up to one hour before departure through IndiGo’s website or at the airport.

Meanwhile, the airline said that passengers travelling under the Lite fare will continue to earn and redeem IndiGo BluChip loyalty points. Commenting on the launch, Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer, IndiGo, said the airline continues to expand its fare portfolio, in line with evolving customer requirements.

“Designed for customers who travel light and would like to pay only for the services they need, IndiGo Lite is another step towards building a strong, fit-for-purpose product portfolio. This reflects our agility in responding to market dynamics, while reinforcing our commitment to making travel more accessible and affordable for our customers,” said Singh.

According to the airline, the introduction of IndiGo Lite expands its existing 6E Ways to Fly portfolio, which comprises Saver, Flexi Plus, IndiGo UpFront, IndiGoStretch, Stretch+ and Lite.

The airline said the expanded fare portfolio is intended to provide passengers with greater flexibility to select products that best suit their travel requirements, comfort preferences and budget.
