For this months T-SQL Tuesday contribution I cover how AI is changing my career.

Before I go any further, I want to thank Taiob Ali who hosts this months T-SQL Tuesday.

By my own admission it has been a while since I last contributed to T-SQL Tuesday. However, this seems like a fitting topic to post about. Due to the popularity of AI and the sheer number of different views held by various members of the Data Platform community.

AI is changing my career in many ways. In fact, Copilot in Edge is one of the main reasons why I work with Edge so much these days.

Plus, I now work a lot with GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio Code. because it makes me a more efficient in multiple areas. Like working with Python scripts or querying items like SQL databases in Fabric.

AI is also influencing other areas that I work with as well. At the moment looking into how AI integrates with Microsoft Fabric in a variety of ways. Including the Copilot capabilities in Data Factory and chat with your data.

One other way AI is changing my career is how I see the long-term future of certification coaching. Over the years I have helped others gain a variety of certifications. Including certifications relating to SQL Server, Azure and Microsoft Fabric.

Thanks to the introduction of AI capabilities for Microsoft Learn such as Ask Learn and the introduction of the Microsoft Learn Docs MCP Server I feel this will change over time. Because I suspect over time people will be relying on AI offerings more to create their certification paths.

Plus, perform other tasks. Such as generate a detailed learning plan for them to view, recommend learning material based on their preferences or even present the material outright for them.

In reality, this is partly possible already. You can see this for yourself in a previous post of mine. Where I covered my initial tests of the Microsoft Learn Docs MCP Server.

I do show the downsides of AI in that post as well. Like in the below image where GitHub Copilot in Ask mode hallucinated the wrong details for the DP-700 exam.

Responsible AI

Regardless of any of our personal views we are in the era of AI. AI allows us to be more efficient, as long as it is responsible AI. Like the usage of responsible AI at Microsoft.

For example, ensuring it is reliable and safe enough to work with. Plus, avoid working with AI to recycle the efforts of others in posts and forums without the proper attribution.
