Two people injured in a Saturday crash involving an airport shuttle bus near Raleigh-Durham International Airport have died, Raleigh police said.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. at Glenwood Avenue and Lumley Road near the I-540 ramp. According to the Raleigh Police Department, the crash involved a sedan and a Fast Park bus, which is used to shuttle people to RDU, and the bus overturned during the crash.

Police on Monday identified the victims as 48-year-old Scott Christofferson and 44-year-old Jennifer Christofferson. The husband and wife had been on the bus with their child, who was also injured in the crash and remains hospitalized. 

The driver of the transit bus was not injured. 

According to police, the transit bus was traveling west on Lumley Road, going toward the airport, and had the right of way when a Nissan Altima going south down the ramp from Glenwood Avenue ran a red light at the intersection.  The Nissan struck the bus, causing it to roll and flip. 

Kim Johnson, who has been driving for Uber since January, said she was at the scene of the crash on Saturday.

"We pulled up on this scene that looked like it was staged out of a movie," Johnson said. "It was really surreal and horrifying."

Johnson jumped out of her car and into action, performing CPR until first responders arrived.

"There were a lot of caring people standing around when I first arrived," Johnson said. "There was definitely uncertainty and anxiety around acting, but I really believe that doing something is better than doing nothing."

This isn't the first time Johnson has had to assist after a car crash; she even got a bigger first aid kit for her car.

She believes more patience on the roads can make us all safer.

"We're driving too close to each other - we're not gonna be able to stop," she said.

Scott Christofferson's sister, Brooke Christofferson, sent WRAL a statement saying, "We are devastated by the loss of Scott and Jen. They lived lives full of adventure and showed kindness to everyone they met. The world is a lot less bright without them."

UNC Health confirmed Scott Christofferson was an emergency department pharmacist at UNC Health Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

In a statement, UNC Health said Christofferson had been a valued member of the UNC Health Rex Emergency Department and Pharmacy teams for many years.

"We have learned the heartbreaking news that a member of our UNC Health family and his wife were killed in a tragic motor vehicle accident over the weekend," UNC Health said. "Our thoughts and our hearts are with Scott and his family's loved ones during this unimaginable time."

Raleigh police identified the driver of the Nissan as 70-year-old Barry Hayes. He was also injured in the crash.

Hayes has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle, driving without an operator's license, reckless driving causing serious injuries, a red-light violation and operating a vehicle with unsafe tires.

The crash remains under investigation.
