Monique Parker Named New ASSP President

The veteran safety executive will lead the organization for a one-year term with a major focus on workforce development.

A veteran environmental health and safety executive began her term Wednesday, July 1, as the 111th president of the American Society of Safety Professionals.

Monique Parker, who also serves as the chief sustainability officer at Elevra Lithium, took over the one-year term as president of the organization and chair of its charitable arm, the ASSP Foundation. She succeeds Linda Tapp, the president of SafetyFUNdamentals.

Parker brings more than two decades of environmental health and safety experience to the role. Her background spans multiple industries, including textiles, chemical manufacturing, building materials and food production. In her current role at Elevra Lithium, she manages enterprise risk management, occupational safety, community engagement and sustainability strategy.

An ASSP member for more than 20 years, Parker has held leadership and advocacy roles within several common interest groups, including Women in Safety Excellence and Blacks in Safety Excellence. She has served on the organization's board of directors since 2024.

During her presidency, Parker plans to focus on workforce development to help safety professionals advance within the industry. She also plans to focus on organizational priorities aimed at moving safety protocols beyond basic compliance, reducing serious injuries and fatalities and bridging gaps between official standards and real-world implementation.

Parker holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Tennessee Tech University and lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.
