I have this generic portapower type short stroke ram possibly 10ton but its just a handy size doesnt really matter but its always had a leak nothing major but slowly getting worse , thought i'd strip it down and see how easy to fix . Turns out not so much

Bore looks trashed I have something the right size I can machine to replace it , a bit of work but not too tricky

Rams seen better days but on single action its only the seals on the end of the ram that really matter

Seals are not great though does anyone know what this type is called ive not had dealing with these before .

It could all be too much work but i just hate giving up on anything , perhaps with this though i should ?

if you can fine somewhere local that does ram seals / hydraulics etc.. chances are you can plonk that pile on the desk, they'll know exactly what every one of them is and order them pretty quick

and they'll be loads cheaper too

(I've done that a few times)

They look like V packing seals.

They look like V packing seals.

they stack up over the silver ring at the bottom and are curved on top the negative of it underneath

Triplex piston pressure washer pumps use the same seals.

Is it beyond honing to recover it? It might also be possible to bore it out and sleeve it.

These might be less work than a whole new one. I think you might need to hone the new one in any case, so buying the tool and trying on the existing would not be wasted.

I think its too deep to hone but maybe there is something could fill it with and hone it back ? Is that an option i wonder

I could sleeve it yes it would certainly be less work i need to see what tube i have in stock I only need to worry about 1 thread then too. I have a set of hones need to see what size they go down to I cant remember

Contact FPE Ltd.

Options are GM-EI/GM-EO/GM-WO/GM-WI Seals sets rated at 700 Bar which is Porta-Power...

PS: Is it an Enerpac Ram???

I had a cylinder that was pitted and needed new seals. A local supplier quoted for seals (not cheap) and recommended against fitting them due to the pitting.

I found some dirt cheap seals on AliExpress that required only minor modification to the ram. I also bought a cheap honing kit. 100% success!

When I worked at a local hydraulic cylinder rebuild place, we used extended 80 grit flap whèels on cordless drills with plenty of hydraulic oil as lubricant,
4 or 5 push in n outs at full speed soon honed the surface.

In that case your down to FPE Ltd and measuring the bore/piston/seals or finding a local bearing or hydraulic factor (Pirtek possibly?).

You can just send your seals to FPE

They then send you the kit of seals
