The 17-70mm F/2.8 is a fast standard zoom lens for APS-C cameras, and the new versions bring the versatile fast-aperture zoom to even more APS-C mirrorless camera users.
With a focal length that corresponds to 25.5-105mm on Nikon Z APS-C cameras and 27.2-112mm on Canon RF APS-C cameras, the lens covers a practical 4.1x zoom range while maintaining a constant F2.8 aperture throughout the full focal length range and is suitable for everyday photography, travel, portraits, street photography and video.
The lens includes Tamron’s VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization and a fast, quiet AF system. Focus breathing and AF noise are also suppressed, making the lens well suited for both stills and video. Still, Tamron notes that “With the 17-70mm F2.8 VC for CANON RF and Nikon Z mounts, the autofocus may become less responsive when tracking subjects during zooming in video shooting.”
The optical construction consists of 16 elements in 12 groups. The lens has a minimum object distance of 0.19m at the wide end and 0.39m at the tele end, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.8 at wide and 1:5.2 at tele.
For practical handling, the lens features a 67mm filter size, moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating. The Canon RF mount version also includes an AF/MF switch and VC On/Off switch. Firmware updates are supported via Tamron Lens Utility for both Nikon Z and Canon RF mount versions.
The new lens is available for immediate shipping. Recommended selling price is:
