It’s summer and snacks are most necessary. After a day of camps and outside fun, my kids are usually pretty hungry when they come home. I’ve been messing around with Whipped Cottage Cheese, which is all the rage these days, and so I made these cottage cheese pinwheels with it!
The whipped cottage cheese has a wonderful texture but has more protein than just plain yogurt or something. It’s a great base for pinwheels like this because it’s easy to spread and helps the pinwheels stick together nicely.
This is barely a recipe, honestly, but is a pretty fun idea and is very customizable with whatever fresh summer fruit you can find!
There are a few options for making whipped cottage cheese. The easiest way to do it is to use an immersion blender and just blend the whole container of cottage cheese! I like to add a little honey in as well for sweetness.
You just stick in the immersion blender and whip it until it’s creamy and smooth! It’ll take less than a minute.
If you don’t have an immersion blender, no worries! You can add the cottage cheese to a food processor or a high-speed blender and it’ll end up the same! Just more dishes that way!

You have some options here, but personally, I just use a large burrito-sized flour tortilla. They are readily available and kids love them.
For some pinwheels, I like to use a wrap with some flavor like a sun-dried tomato wrap or spinach wrap, but I would definitely NOT use those for these fruity cottage cheese pinwheels. The flavors would be off with the fresh fruit.
This is about as easy as a recipe can get. Just spread a thin layer of whipped cottage cheese onto a flour tortilla and then stack on the fruit.
Try to slice the fruit thin so it can roll up easily. If you have thick slices, they won’t hold together well.
I like to to two rows of kiwi and strawberry for each pinwheel.
Then just roll up the tortilla and slice it into pieces. You should get 8 pieces out of one tortilla, but the end pieces aren’t very pretty if you care for presentation.
I usually eat the ends and then I have six pretty pieces for the kids.
When it comes to making these cottage cheese pinwheels in advance, you definitely can, but just know that if they sit in the fridge for even a few hours, the tortillas will start to get soggy.
If you need to save some time for these, you can whip the cottage cheese in advance and slice the fruit and then just assemble the cottage cheese pinwheels right before serving.

If you want to whip the whole container of cottage cheese, you can just use an immersion blender to whip it in the container. Add in honey. Otherwise, you can measure out as much as you want to whip and then whip it in a food processor or high powered blender.
Spread whipped cottage cheese on a tortilla.
Add sliced kiwi and strawberries. Slice the fruit very thin so it can be rolled up.
Roll tortilla into a tight cylander. Use a sharp knife to cut the roll into 6-8 pinwheels. Serve as soon as possible.
You can store these in the fridge but they will start to get soggy if you store them longer than a few hours. I think they are best to assemble right before serving.
