Young's has cheered England's progression at the World Cup as the hospitality industry pins hopes on the country making it to the final.
The pub company, which runs 287 sites across the country, said that its trading has benefited from the extended opening hours for later England matches - which saw football fans flock to the pub for Monday’s 2am kick off against Mexico.
Young’s chief executive Simon Dodd, said his pubs had performed ‘strongly’ as sales rose 9.4 per cent in the 14 weeks to 6 July.
He said that England’s success in the World Cup so far was a ‘welcome boost’, while business has also been boosted by sunny weather.
It came as Lawson Mountstevens, managing director of Heineken UK’s Star Pubs said the tournament was ‘a brilliant reminder of why pubs matter.’
Venues that chose to open to host England fans for Monday’s game cashed in as transactions rose to typical Saturday night levels, payments company Square said.

And Britain’s biggest pub group Stonegate, which owns the Slug & Lettuce, Be at One, Sports Bar & Grill, said it poured 796,000 drinks - 355,000 more than a typical Sunday.
Footfall on high streets across the entire UK rose by nearly 150 per cent between midnight and 6am compared with the same period last year, according to MRI Software.
It is a much needed boost for the industry and pubs are preparing for an even busier night this Saturday when England takes on Norway in the quarter-finals.
Shares in Young’s rose 3.8 per cent to 883p.
