Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Tuesday (July 7) chaired a meeting with officials of the civic authority and directed them to clear vehicles parked on footpaths and initiate action against the dumping of construction debris on footpaths.

Mr. Gowda said that notices had already been stuck on vehicles parked on footpaths. He directed officials to issue notices to vehicle owners to ensure they follow the rules and avoid further violations.

The Minister has also asked officials to identify locations where the cleared vehicles can be kept.

The Hindu had earlier reported that the place for parking vehicles was a concern when the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) began towing operations. Mr. Gowda has directed officials to finalise the dates for clearing the vehicles and make the necessary preparations.

Clear debris

On the other hand, the Minister pointed out that construction debris is being dumped on footpaths along roads in the city’s peripheral areas. He noted that debris generated from BMRCL and K-RIDE works also needs to be cleared.

“I have seen debris being dumped rampantly in the western and northern parts of the city, which needs to be cleared. Bushes are also growing over these debris piles. So, we need to clear that as well,” he directed.

A GBA source told The Hindu that Mr. Gowda has also instructed the BTP to identify vehicles transporting and dumping construction debris along roadsides and register cases against the offenders.
