A Maine resident got a very rude awakening when they discovered a stranger sleeping on their sofa.

Jose Harvey, 50, of Milford, was arrested Sunday morning after a resident woke up to find him snoozing on their couch, according to the Bangor Police Department.

Police officers responded to the State Street apartment after the resident reported that Harvey refused to leave.

Officers said the resident discovered all of their Christmas gifts by the sofa had been unwrapped.

They confirmed that their doors had been locked, but a bathroom window was found open.

Officers, who identified Harvey from previous interactions, stated he could not provide a logical reason for being in the apartment.

'Surprises like this don't put any of us in a festive mood, but even the Grinch figured out the chimney is always an option,' Bangor Police quipped in a Facebook post

Police used the incident to remind the public to lock their doors and windows.

They also advised residents to keep gifts and packages out of vehicles and out of sight while shopping.

Facebook users were quick to comment on how amazed they were that someone already had their Christmas presents wrapped, a month before Christmas day.

'Hold on. Is no one else impressed with the fact that they had Christmas presents wrapped already?!?!?' said one user.

'This is why I don't wrap presents until the last minute because I don't want to have to do it again,' said another.

'I understand he has mental issues and what he did is wrong. Maybe just maybe he wanted to experience Christmas like when he was a child,' chimed a third.

'Breaking in is one thing but unwrapping the Christmas gifts? Too far, man,' said a fourth.
