BEIRUT (VINnews) – A Lebanese resident of Beirut directly challenged prominent U.S. commentators Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur, along with other supporters of Hezbollah, saying the vast majority of Lebanese people want the Iran-backed group to disarm and seek peace with Israel.

In a video message that spread rapidly on social media Monday, the man addressed Kasparian and Uygur of The Young Turks, urging them to cease claiming to represent Lebanese opinion.

“Stop speaking on behalf of the Lebanese people,” he said. “The vast majority of Lebanese people want Hezbollah to disarm. Most of us want peace with Israel.”

The remarks come amid ongoing international and domestic pressure on Hezbollah to relinquish its weapons and allow the Lebanese state to hold a monopoly on arms, in line with U.N. resolutions and a U.S.-brokered ceasefire framework following last year’s intense fighting with Israel.

Polls have consistently shown broad Lebanese support for disarming non-state militias, with many citizens exhausted by repeated conflicts that have devastated the country’s economy and infrastructure. Hezbollah has rejected full disarmament, insisting its arsenal remains necessary for defense until Israeli forces fully withdraw from southern Lebanon.

The man’s message, shared widely by accounts and amplified by commentators like Dave Rubin, highlights growing frustration among segments of Lebanese society with external voices perceived as endorsing Hezbollah’s dominance.

Lebanese officials, including President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, have pushed for the Lebanese Armed Forces to assume full security control, a stance supported by much of the public outside Hezbollah’s core base. Israel has conditioned further withdrawals on verifiable disarmament of the group.
