Despite his recent success in Los Angeles, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts may already be eyeing up a new role.

The 53-year-old has guided the Dodgers to back-to-back World Series titles over the past two seasons but he could now be targeting glory with a new team altogether.

Baseball will be returning to the Olympics when the games are held on American soil in 2028 and this time, major league stars could be stepping up to the plate.

And if they do, Roberts has already staked his claim to managing the team.

'I want to manage the Olympic team,' Roberts told the California Post. 'That's what I want to do. In LA, I want to manage that team.'

The veteran baseball manager went on to insist that he was the best candidate for the job, listing his many qualifications.

'I went to school here,' Roberts, who attended UCLA, said. 'I manage the Dodgers. It's a no-brainer.'

As the Olympics return stateside for the first time since the 1996 Atlanta games, the committee greenlighted the addition of baseball, softball, cricket, flag football, lacrosse, and squash last year.

Dodger Stadium will be one of the venues for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles as the games welcome America's favorite pastime back to the lineup.

Roberts represented the United States at the 1999 Pan American Games, where Team USA finished second.

The result earned the Americans qualification to the 2000 Olympics, where they earned gold with Tommy Lasorda as its manager.

Several MLB stars, including the Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and the Phillies' Bryce Harper, have already expressed their interest in representing their nations at the games in Los Angeles.

Dodger Stadium hosted many of baseball's biggest moments in the United States, including the Olympic games in 1984 when baseball was a demonstration sport. Team USA bagged silver medals then.
