Aaha!, a digital dance festival, conceived by Aravinth Kumarasamy, the artistic director of the Singapore-based Apsaras Dance Company, will be launched on June 1. To be hosted on AVAI.video, the festival is being presented in collaboration with The Hindu.

A global meeting point for dancers, choreographers, musicians, scholars and rasikas, the festival aims to transform Bharatanatyam’s presence on the digital platform. Specially commissioned solo, duet and ensemble works will be showcased alongside conversations and behind-the-scene insights.

It attempts to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation and will make artistes rethink performances in a digitally driven world.

Curated by Mohanapriyan Thavarajah, associate creative director, Apsaras Dance Company, Aaha! features performances by 40 Bharatanatyam dancers across different categories including up-and-coming artistes, trailblazers, gurus and legends. The line-up includes Padma Subrahmanyam, the Dhananjayans, Priyadarsini Govind, Rama Vaidyanathan, Vaibhav Arekar and Meenakshi Srinivasan.
