Driven by a love of music nurtured in their living room, Southern California brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson rented musical instruments using grocery money left by their parents during a short vacation to Mexico back in 1961. Alongside their cousin, Mike Love, and high school friend, Al Jardine, they spent the weekend creating their first original song, “Surfin.’” Initially dubbed The Pendletones—after the heavy wool shirts worn by SoCal surfers at the time—they recorded the single for a small independent label. Before its release, a promoter changed their name to The Beach Boys to better market the surf theme.

“Surfin’” peaked at No. 75 on the Billboard charts, prompting Capitol Records to sign them in mid-1962. They immediately put out “Surfin’ Safari,” which rocketed into the national Top 20 and officially launched their global career.

As a central figure in the band’s meteoric rise, Love cowrote the lyrics to many of their earliest hits, including “California Girls” and “I Get Around.” He was also a lead singer on iconic tracks ranging from “Fun, Fun, Fun” to “Be True to Your School.” Additionally, he cowrote and sang lead on “Good Vibrations,” the group’s ultimate masterpiece and a worldwide No. 1 hit.

Fast-forward to the late 1990s: Following the tragic deaths of Dennis and Carl, Brian’s pursuit of a solo career, and Jardine’s departure from the touring lineup, Love was granted an exclusive, long-term license to tour under the legendary name The Beach Boys. Along the way, fueled by years of success, Love and his longtime wife, Jacquelyne, built a 19,000-square-foot compound in the affluent Incline Village enclave on the northeastern shore of Lake Tahoe, which has served as their primary residence and creative oasis for over four decades.

Now, with the couple’s eight children grown, the 85-year-old musician and his family have placed the “modern-day castle” with sweeping lake views on the market for $43 million, with Jeannette Harpole of Habitat Nevada, Keller Williams Realty handling the listing.

Secluded on 2.5 acres high in the mountains above the lake and adjacent to six acres Love donated to preserve the landscape and prevent future development, the property offers a nearly 19,000-square-foot main home introduced by a 10-inch-thick, hand-carved front door inlaid with rubies, diamonds, and pearls. Tiered terraces travel down the sloping backyard past granite outcroppings and towering pines before opening to panoramic views across the entire Lake Tahoe basin.

A motor court and garage bays for up to five vehicles flank the arched entry to the 10-bedroom, 15-bath house, which is dressed with granite sourced from the surrounding property and capped with a slate-tiled roof. The three levels of interiors, featuring custom details crafted by local artisans, are serviced by two elevators and a curving wrought-iron staircase alongside a koi pond. Hand-painted celestial murals appear throughout.

All the expected amenities are in play within the primary home: a glass-lined great room flaunting a two-story stone fireplace with an integrated water wall, a formal dining room with a wet bar, and a rustic kitchen outfitted with an expansive eat-in island and a living plant wall. A primary suite occupies its own wing with dual closets and baths, while an entertainment level packs in a 10-seat movie theater, a wine cellar with a backlit agate ceiling, and a gym. Love’s former recording studio, now a lounge, includes a skylit loft under a cathedral ceiling.

A detached, two-bedroom guesthouse sitting amid the pine-laced grounds was built as a rustic tribute to historic Lake Tahoe cabins, complete with a cozy river rock fireplace. The gated property also includes an ice-skating rink, a built-in trampoline, a pool and 10-person spa, and a covered deck with a kitchen and built-in barbecue.

Love, who is currently headlining The Beach Boys’ 2026 World Tour, “Endless Summer Gold,” related to the New York Post that he plans to buy a smaller home in the Lake Tahoe area.
