Viewers have been left outraged after Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard made a vulgar joke about women during his Saturday Night Live monologue.

Wolfhard was one of the star guests on Saturday's show. He spoke about growing up onscreen and going through puberty while being in the spotlight. 

'My voice changed on camera, my first kiss was on camera, and I can't actually believe I'm admitting this, but the first time I learned what a woman looks like down there - was on camera as well,' he said.

The broadcast then cut to a clip of a young Wolfhard staring in shock at the the sci-fi show's main villain, a howling monster called the Demogorgon.

But the joke did not sit well with some viewers as they took to social media to express their disgust for his crude joke.

'People when they realize casual misogyny and homophobia aren't supposed to be jokes unless you're a braindead bigot,' one critic wrote on X.

'Sexist joke and like lazy?? At least try harder,' another user said. 

Infuriated users slammed his crude joke as 'disgusting' and 'hardly funny,' while swiping at SNL writers, calling it 'poorly written and unfunny.'

'Sorry I don't watch SNL, is it always this f***ing terrible,' one said, with another replying: 'Yes, it gets worse.' 

'They seriously need to fire all of their writers because what a terrible joke,' another critic fired back.

'Just a really unfunny man on a really unfunny show with an awful script.'

While many expressed their shock, others pushed back and defended Wolfhard's joke.

'Why is everyone on the left and right clutching their pearls after this harmless crude joke,' one user wrote.

'For all getting butthurt over this, please get one of yall that cares enough to explain where the bad is in this,' a supporter posted on X.

'Because screaming "disgusting", "misogynistic" and "problematic" alone in the void won't fix or enlighten s***,' they continued.

Later in the monologue, Wolfhard continued with the mature jokes, and shared an alcoholic drink with SNL star Marcello Hernández, and then spit it all over him as he didn't like the taste.

His spiel was crashed by two of his famed co-stars, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo.

The actors came out to agree with Wolfhard and give their takes on growing up in the public eye, and pointing out all the strange comments fans would say about them on Reddit.

They ended the monologue with a bang, quipping that they're ready to act in 'adult films.'
