Two suspects have been arrested after a stabbing in downtown Fort McMurray.

According to the Wood Buffalo RCMP, the incident unfolded at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, shortly after a 37-year-old man was found seriously injured in the parking lot at 10002 Franklin Avenue.

While he was transported by Emergency Services to the Northern Lights Regional Center, police found two alleged suspects nearby.

In a news release, the RCMP said the injured man, and the two alleged suspects – a 34-year-old Fort McMurray woman and a 35-year-old Grand Prairie man – were not previously known to each other.

Police have not yet publicly released the names of the alleged suspects, but have since taken them into custody and charged them with multiple offences including aggravated assault.

Investigations are ongoing with the assistance of Forensic Identification Services.
